In the face of abuse, it is easy to be beguiled by perpetrators who only ask us to do nothing. The victim demands so much more. They need us to bear witness and take action against the perpetrator which is often difficult and uncomfortable. |

It takes a lot of courage to write a memoir, and I donąt mean that in a kind of glib way. It really must feel very raw and revealing. I have so many questions about where Margaret is today spiritually, with the role of church in her life today, with some of the people in the story like Ruth and Rev. Karen. She is still in the same town that she was in before. I have so many questions. |

I am thinking about Margaretąs story, her book, all the deep feelings and issues it brings up for me as a reader. There’s so much to talk about: bullying, group-think, victimization, how we cope in our adult lives when we have been abused as children, how we can help ourselves, how we help others, the role of religion, church, and spirituality. There’s so much in the book too in terms of story line and detail: the church abuse storylines, the James storyline, even the minor story lines with Maggie and her family. |

At Pluck Press we seek to assist abuse survivors by giving them a place to tell their stories. We encourage bystanders as well as survivors to bear witness and then to take effective action to establish a safe society for the weak as well as the strong.
